3. Henry Blake on MASH
Seriously writers, this was one of those moments where everyone watching grasped their chests and called out, "No!" "Why!" and "Oh s*** no way!" In a show that's all about war, there must have been some people in the audience expecting it, but when actor McLean Stevenson decided to leave the show, the writers made it look like a happy ending for the lovable Henry Blake when he was discharged and flown home. But no way a show about war time's going to let its viewers off that easy. Instead, they got a performance to remember from Radar when
he tells the rest of the cast that Blake's plane was shot down over the Sea of Japan. Radar's stunningly emotional delivery aside, to get closure from a character like Blake and then find out his ending is tragic instead of ideal is heart wrenching. How could the writers toy with our emotions like that!
