On the flipside of Over The Edge, Perchance To Dream presents not a nightmare world where everything has gone wrong but a perfect one. One morning Bruce wakes up to find that there is no Batcave, that he is engaged to Selina Kyle and that, most importantly, his parents are still alive! Despite enjoying such a life, Bruce knows something is up and needs to get to the bottom of it... 'Alternate universe' stories are always interesting because they put familiar characters in unfamiliar situations - and to find Bruce, the man who doesn't know the meaning of the word "happiness", in such a dream world is actually heart-warming. But, ultimately, this episode demonstrates a core theme in various versions of the character - Bruce is defined by his heroism and determination to help those in need. In short, the world isn't complete if he's not Batman.
