10 Greatest Original Musical Moments From Classic Non-Musical Shows

4. Baby On Board €“ The Simpsons (S5E1)

Be Sharps To say the list of Simpsons songs is long is an understatement. The list of great Simpsons songs is not much shorter and it's no easy feat to pick just a few to go on this list, but "Baby On Board' is one of those sweet, nostalgic moments that The Simpsons writers do so well and, in its barbershop quartet format, it seems to stand out a little more than your average spontaneous sing song. Written by Homer, in the episode, as an ode to the fatherly pride he feels when he displays his 'baby on board' sign in his car, and so the song reminds us of how much Homer loves his kids even though he may not be the world's greatest dad. The episode is framed as a story told by Homer to Bart and Lisa after they discover an LP with his picture on the cover, along with his Be-Sharp buddies, Skinner, Apu and Barney. It loosely spoofs the story of The Beatles, with Barney's girlfriend being based on Yoko Ono and their Bigger Than Jesus album cover parodying the Abbey Road cover art. Baby On Board was the group's biggest hit and is sung in part throughout the episode but it's not until the episode's conclusion that we hear it in full when the group reunites for one last performance on the roof of Moe's Tavern. George Harrison scoffs that 'it's been done' as the crowd gathers to enjoy the song and it's a musical moment that exemplifies the sense of nostalgia established throughout the episode.
