10 Greatest Original Musical Moments From Classic Non-Musical Shows

5. Guy Love €“ Scrubs (S6E6)

Scrubs The Scrubs musical episode generally left viewers and critics feeling fairly flat. The premise dictates that a woman has a brain aneurysm and so she hears and sees everything as a Broadway musical, which isn't the most imaginative of explanations as it is a surprisingly common reason given for TV shows bursting into song. It also limited performances to always having to be in her presence, which made them feel quite forced at times. The episode did have its moments though: honourable mentions go to the songs "Dominican' and (as much as it pains me to say it) "Everything Comes Down To Poo", which was annoyingly likeable despite the lyrics being so crass. The majority of the songs were written by Avenue Q creators, Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, so were always going to be well thought out and slightly tongue-in-cheek, and it's "Guy Love" that rung out in the memories of fans after the episode concluded. Written as a touching ballad, the couple that first brought bromance to our screens defend their sometimes overly affectionate friendship with each other. The song is actually a beautifully written vocal duet and the separate parts complement each other in a balanced way that reflects how close the characters are. The lyrics aren't particularly strong but both Donald Faison and Zach Braff put in convincing vocal performances, with Faison winning the highest note contest, and viewers are left with a warm fuzzy feeling that leaves us groping for our best friend's hand and a box of tissues.
