10 Greatest Prison Break Characters - Ranked
2. Alexander Mahone
Seasons: 2-The Final Break
At first, he seemed to be a does exactly what it says on the tin, run-of-the-mill sort of character. An FBI special agent who is fiercely determined to hunt down the Fox River Eight escapees. In fact, Mahone is practically obsessed with one man in particular: Michael Scofield.
It's an absorbing game of cat and mouse between the pair during season two; you can outwit who, and every time Scofield evades Mahone's grasp, the more crazily obsessed and darker Mahone becomes. As demonstrated when he callously murders David "Tweener" Apolskis in cold blood, manipulates Charles "Haywire" Patoshik into committing suicide and gets his men to gun down John Abruzzi. We witness Mahone spiralling out of control as season two progresses which is compounded by his obvious drug problem when continually pen popping benzodiazepines pills.
Mahone shares similar character traits with Kellerman in that he's a misguided protector of law and order; the killing of Oscar Shales, a murderer, rapist and torturer of women, a prime example of that. The actor who plays him, William Fitchner, conveys the physical and emotional wringer Mahone goes through so convincingly and absorbingly it's like he's method acting. It's a shame he's not involved in the fifth season.
