10. Barney & Robin How I Met Your Mother
Say what you like about the divisive How I Met Your Mother series finale, but showrunners Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have always stuck to the vision they had for the show no matter what the fan reaction might be. The finale might always be remembered for tragically killing off the character wed been waiting 9 years for our protagonist to marry and live happily ever after with, but there was an equally shocking revelation earlier in the episode when we found out that Robin and Barney, whose three day wedding was dragged out over one unbearably long final season, got divorced in Argentina. Barney & Robins relationship was equally divisive among fans, but the most shocking and gutting aspect of their breakup was the fact that fans had spent a whole season building up to their actual wedding, only for them to break up in the next episode. Wed seen Ted let go of Robin countless times and wed expected a happy ending for the two characters and to see that taken away from us after years of character development is not just a disappointment, but downright heart-breaking.
