10 Hidden Gem Horror TV Shows You Need To Watch
9. Hemlock Grove
One of Netflix’s earliest original offerings, 2013’s Hemlock Grove is undeniably polarising.
As to be expected from one of the streaming services first forays into in-house production, the show exhibits some now-unfortunate choices, whether that be around its dubious portrayal and somewhat inaccurate casting of Romani people, or simply Famke Janssen’s horrific British accent in season one.
However, hiding underneath these errors is the meat and bones of an intriguing and overall decent supernatural horror show, if you like spectacular gore paired with a languid, dreamlike, and often absolutely batshit insane narrative.
Starring Landon Liboiron and a pre-Steven King Bill Skarsgard, the show focuses on the friendship of the two teenagers from startlingly different economic backgrounds - oh, and also, that fact that one is a werewolf and the other a kind of vampire.
If this sounds like teeny-bopper Vampire Diaries-esque fare a serious horror fan wouldn’t be interested in, think again. While it’s necessary to recognise the show’s missteps, looking beyond will provide you with an undeniably adult show, whose most violent scenes might even leave you feeling a little ill.
At the very least, it features maybe the most gruesome werewolf transformation ever put to screen, so catch it for that if nothing else.
