If you're looking for a hilarious sitcom that intentionally misinterprets the complex concept of karma, look no further than My Name is Earl.

The series starred Jason Lee as Earl Hickey, a notorious criminal who had terrible life filled with rotten luck. While recuperating in the hospital from an injury, he watched an episode of Last Call with Carson Daly that loosely explained the concept of karma. Earl realized that doing bad things has caused bad things to happen to him. He decided to start making up for his bad deeds so good things will happen.

Earl immediately found the $100,000 winning lotto ticket he lost, which funded his new life adventure. He moved into a cheap motel with his dimwit brother, Randy, where they shared the same bed. Earl was perpetually tormented by his ex-wife joy and her new husband, Darnell, who Earl was actually still good friends with. The crew was rounded out by Catalina, the motel housekeeper Randy had a crush on.

Again, the premise on this show was based on a gross oversimplification of the concept of karma but it worked. The first two seasons of My Name is Earl were absolute gold. Unfortunately, season three went in some weird directions that betrayed the core concept. Season four tried to return to form. While it was an improvement, it was too late and the show was cancelled. It's still a series worth re-watching.
