7. The Drew Carey Show

Fans of Drew Carey these days would recognize him best as the host of The Price is Right, his current gig. But there was a time that the stand-up comedian was most famous for fronting his own sitcom.

Like many comedians who star in shows based on their comedy, Carey played a fictionalized version of himself. He was an everyman character who was the Assistant Director of Personnel at a fictional department store in Cleveland. He had a crew of friends since childhood who supported him through everything, frequently by burning him as much as they possibly could.

Drew was plagued at work by his direct supervisor's receptionist, Mimi, a terse woman who basically dressed like a clown and endlessly tortured him. Said supervisor didn't appear on screen until the end of season one but a new boss named Nigel Wick showed up in season two played by Craig Ferguson.

The Drew Carey Show was outstanding for two reasons. First, it had a stellar cast. In addition to Carey and Ferguson, Drew's friends were played by an incredible group of funny people in Diedrich Bader, Christa Miller and Ryan Stiles. The other key component is that the series was willing to take big swings on music, dance and other premises. It helped the show stand out.
