10 Hilarious TV Sitcoms You Totally Forgot About

3. The New Normal

The New Normal was a series that was just a little bit before its time. Focused on a gay couple in Los Angeles trying to have a child, it only ran for one season on NBC but had huge potential for more. Had the series been released now on a streaming service, it would have had a much longer run.

David Sawyer, a obstetrician, and Bryan Collins, a television producer, had gone through a series of disastrous attempts to find a surrogate who will help them have a baby. They met Goldie, a transplant from Ohio who had come to Los Angeles to make a new life with her daughter. She agreed to be their surrogate. Then, her mother arrived.

The crux of the comedy in this series was Jane Forrest, Goldie's incredibly conservative and loudly opinionated mother. Played brilliantly by Ellen Barkin, Jane dealing with this entire situation was filled with brilliantly funny moments. In particular, her interactions with Rock Rhoades, a co-worker of Bryan's, were especially epic.

If given another chance, this is a series that could resonate with audiences today, particularly given the current political climate. New episodes of The New Normal could easily be produced for a streaming service like Amazon Prime or Netflix.
