10 Historicals That Show What Modern Doctor Who Is Missing

The Reign of Terror has two missing episodes, but instead of only being available through reconstruction, the missing episodes have been animated.

The Doctor - having taken offense to one of Ian’s comments in the previous episode - has decided that he's had enough of Ian and Barbara and sets course for Earth to drop them off. He seems rather proud of himself for having managed to land not too far from London, until it's revealed that he rather miscalculated the date: it is not 1960s England, but 1790s revolutionary France.

While investigating a manor house, the TARDIS crew is captured by the republican army and taken to get acquainted with the guillotine. The soldiers then decide to set fire to the house with an unconscious Doctor still inside. In this story, we get to see the First Doctor do some excellent costumed shenanigans, pretending to be an officer to try and get his companions out of trouble. Susan gets sick from the conditions in the prison, and Ian gets involved with the English smuggling out French aristocrats from France.

For those who have seen Doctor Who in animation before, this is something of a different experience. The animation style is quite different from more recent releases, and sometimes it can be difficult to determine what characters - besides the Doctor and his companions - are in a scene.
