10 Historicals That Show What Modern Doctor Who Is Missing

3. The Wrath Of The Iceni

Doctor Who Marco Polo William Hartnell First Doctor
Big Finish Productions

Here we have an appearance by the Fourth Doctor, and his companion, Leela. They are of course played by Tom Baker and Louise Jameson, returning to their roles in this first series of the Fourth Doctor Adventures range at Big Finish.

The TARDIS materializes in Roman-occupied Britain because the Doctor has decided to teach Leela about her ancestors. What he didn’t count on was running into Boudica, queen of the Iceni, and her war against the Roman invaders. The Doctor wants to leave, but Leela is sympathetic to Boudica’s story and decides to join her uprising - a futile enterprise the Doctor knows all too well will end in nothing but death and failure. However, Leela is convinced that history can be changed with the Doctor’s help, and so the Doctor has to make a choice: save Leela, or preserve history.

This story isn’t very dark but it does discuss some potentially distressing topics, so bear that in mind before you dive in!

Povel Gulin hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
