10 Horrific Fates Suffered By Doctor Who Characters

8. The Praxeus Victims (Praxeus)

Doctor Who Praxeus
BBC

Trapped within a pretty underwhelming episode of the most recent series was this terrific bit of effects work: the Praxeus infection.

A pathogen that targeted the microplastics lurking inside human bodies, the victims who were unlucky enough to contract Praxeus found parts of their skin almost crystallizing, turning pale, bumpy and cracked, with no way to stop it.

As the infection spread, the victims grew increasingly uncomfortable and appeared to be in great pain, before finally exploding into clouds of dust.

From a visual standpoint, Praxeus almost looked like a simple case of dry skin, only a thousand times worse. Whether this was an intentional decision or not, basing the design of the infection on a condition that we've all experienced at some point in our lives made it feel that little bit scarier, that little bit more off-putting to look at.

Unlike dry skin though, moisturiser wouldn't have helped the Praxeus victims in the slightest.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
