10 Horrific Fates Suffered By Doctor Who Characters

7. The Doctor Punishes The Family Of Blood (The Family Of Blood)

We've all seen the Doctor get angry. But we've rarely seen him get this angry.

After spending the entirety of Series 3's classic two-parter Human Nature/The Family of Blood attempting to evade the titular Family, the Doctor is ultimately forced to confront them in order to put an end to their quest for immortality. In doing so, he gives them that immortality they so desperately crave - only with a dark, dark twist.

He wraps the Father in unbreakable chains made from a dwarf star alloy and imprisons him; he throws the Mother into an event horizon; he traps the Daughter inside every mirror in existence; and he suspends the Son in time, dressing him as a scarecrow and locking him in place in the middle of a field.

This punishment made it clear why the Doctor was trying to evade the Family in the first place: he was being kind. By running away from them, he was giving them the chance to live, without experiencing the unparalleled fury of a Time Lord.

So yeah, the Family got their immortality in the end. But on reflection, they probably wish they'd just left the Doctor alone.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
