9. Slasher
A Canadian anthology show which shares cast members between its triumvirate of unrelated seasons, Slasher is a gory horror series which manages to convert its titular inspiration, the slasher whodunit, to serialized tv form with more success—and scares, and plentiful gross violence—than earlier efforts such as Harper’s Island.
The first season follows Katie McGrath’s conflicted heroine as she returns to her hometown and attempts to solve a string of gruesome killings, the second is a shockingly dark and intense spin on the classic “I Know What You Did Last Summer” style “teens hide a terrible secret” plotline, whilst the third is a more thoughtful and socially conscious slasher story.
Each stronger than its predecessor, this brutal, bleak show continues to go from strength to terrifying strength.
