10 Horror TV Shows That Deserved Another Season
8. Lovecraft Country
This cancellation really hurt, as Lovecraft Country gave you a horror experience that's few and far between. It was a juggling act between shocking cosmic horror and realistic historical implications, combining the (unfortunately close) world of racism and Lovecraft in a fascinating mesh. Then, naturally, it got cancelled. *Sigh*.
The series followed a group of African-Americans as they ventured across Jim Crow era America in search of the lead's father. Along the way, they struggled against the terrors of racism and Lovecraftian monsters.
It's not just that good Lovecraft projects are hard to come by; it's that the focus on 50s segregation allowed for leeway to explore some of the legendary author's abhorrently racist beliefs. This allowed you to appreciate and enjoy Lovecraftian horror while tackling the author's issues head on - it was a win-win.
The reason for the show's ending isn't entirely apparent, as multiple reasons have been touted. One is that the show was too expensive to make, another stated that there wasn't a clear enough vision for the next season, and another claimed a toxic work environment created by the showrunner, Misha Green.
Unfortunately, it's the kind of thing fans will likely never get a full answer on, and that's almost as sad as never seeing more of the fantastic show.
