6. The Returned
This series - originally titled Les Revenants - made a tremendous impact on the TV industry when it released in 2012. The French show caught the eye of international viewers with its compelling narrative, great concept and fantastic attention to atmosphere. It was even given an American remake in 2015, to less success than the first.
The show opens in a small community that is completely stunned to find that their dead relatives and friends have miraculously come back to life, and have no recollection of ever having been dead to begin with. The miracle soon begins to fall apart as dangerous scenarios and darkness begin to shroud the town.
The concept is fantastic, and the story is well told over the series' run time. But in the form of a film, it could take a far more cinematic approach that makes the concept even grander. The series would lose a lot of its development, but with the right atmosphere and attention to detail, it would make for a haunting horror movie.
