2. Matt Smith In The 60th Anniversary
Fans were convinced that last year's big anniversary shindig would reunite David Tennant and Matt Smith, but it wasn't to be. While there was never any real suggestion of this, that didn't stop people from rolling out the red string to join the dots.
Smith was seen with Eleventh Doctor-ish hair during filming of the specials – he must be in them! Even though that's generally just what his hair looks like. The speculation got so insane that people began to see his face on the playing cards in the poster.
To be fair, Russell T Davies did decide to REDACT the cast of Wild Blue Yonder (along with most of the trailer footage), which built up hopes that Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Whittaker were in it.
Hilariously, Wild Blue Yonder director Tom Kingsley even tweeted a crude photoshop of Matt Smith inside the TARDIS, which should really have been enough to stop all the speculation.
If the Eleventh Doctor was in the 60th anniversary, would RTD really have allowed that tweet to go out?
