It's not just Sutekh who was tricked into believing the identity of Ruby's mother would be some massive revelation. No matter what anyone may say, every time we saw Ruby's mother in Season 1, it was coded as a big, important mystery to be solved.

Hell, the mother was dressed like a combination of Claudia Winkleman in The Traitors and Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. If that doesn't scream mystery then what does?

And then there's all that snow that Ruby can conjure up from nowhere. The Doctor can talk about memory being time travel until he's blue in the face, but it doesn't change the fact that he was kind of horrified that Ruby could do something like this.

Fundamentally, Doctor Who was setting Ruby's mother up as an otherworldly puzzle to solve. The rug pull that she was just a scared teenage girl doesn't work, partly because that revelation appears to be dismissed out of hand by Davina McCall and the Doctor in The Church on Ruby Road!

So it's no wonder that fans got annoyed that they'd been misled by RTD. Worse still, some fans are now speculating that it's Ruby's father who's the real mystery figure.
