To many fans, Lost was enrapturing; it was a fantastic premise and a slow-burning drama. Okay, if it dropped the ball every now and then, that's only to be expected, right? It's hard to keep a good level of consistency for 121 episodes. In the second season, it felt like something big was going to happen. Jack confronted Ana Lucia and together, they discussed building an army to fight the Others; they even talked about how long it would take to train one. It felt like a hugely exciting development, a chance to see the darker side of characters that we love, and an opportunity for some thrilling fight scenes, but in the end, Jack convinced a grand total of five people to join the Survivor's Army. Five. Officially that's a squad, not an army.. Later on, the "army" just completely fizzled out; it seems like the writers had totally forgotten about that fantastic idea to quicken the pace of the show. If they weren't planning to expand on the idea, they shouldn't have got us excited with it, should they? Oh, and obviously, there's a hilarious amount of SPOILERS in this post.
