Lance Hunter’s time as an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn’t gone so well for the former mercenary. Perhaps after he’s done with this season, he goes back to the UK and is asked to head up their own spy agency. In the comics, Hunter was the second director of the Special Tactical Reserve for International Key Emergencies, or S.T.R.I.K.E., the UK’s version of S.H.I.E.L.D.

S.T.R.I.K.E. was mentioned in the films, but in a different form. Black Widow and Hawkeye were briefly glimpsed in records as members of S.T.R.I.K.E. Team Delta and the team of Hydra infiltrators led by Brock Rumlow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier were also called S.T.R.I.K.E.

A later incarnation of a British version of S.H.I.E.L.D. appeared as MI-13, led by Pete Wisdom. As Wisdom is likely part of Fox’s rights to the X-Men, Hunter could fill that role. Numerous British heroes have appeared as part of MI-13, most notably Captain Britain, Spitfire, Union Jack, the Black Knight, and Blade.

It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that after the events of this current season, Hunter will have decided to return home, giving up on Bobbi Morse once and for all. It would give Hunter an elevated role and also give viewers the chance to experience some other heroes not likely to appear in the films. Maybe Fitz and/or Simmons will also join him.
