10 Ideas For Agents Of Shield Spin-Off

4. S.W.O.R.D.

Agents Of Shield
Marvel Comics

There’s no doubt about it, the alien presence in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has certainly grown. Between the Chitauri and the Asgardians in the films, and now the Inhumans and the Kree on the show, the world’s governments will no longer be able to deny the existence of alien life.

In the “Gifted” arc of the Astonishing X-Men comic, a new S.H.I.E.L.D. counterpart was introduced - the Sentient World Observation and Response Department, or S.W.O.R.D. Led by Abigail Brand and also including Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) and Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman) among their agents, S.W.O.R.D.’s purpose was to monitor and deal with extraterrestrial threats to Earth.

More and more, aliens are appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It seems likely that following the events of The Avengers: Age of Ultron, the world’s governments may become skeptical about leaving their security in the hands of a team of superheroes. That could lead to the creation of S.W.O.R.D.

Not only serving as the introduction to characters like Spider-Woman and Captain Marvel, the presence of S.W.O.R.D. could even include some of the current cast members of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Ward is one possibility of someone whose skills might be valued, or maybe May develops some newfound distrust of Coulson and opts to choose a different path.

Oh, and the writer who created S.W.O.R.D.? Just a little-known guy by the name of Joss Whedon…
