10 Incredible TV Shows That Everyone Thought Would Be Terrible

6. The Big Bang Theory

Excluding It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The Big Bang Theory is the longest live-animation sitcom of all time. This is a staggering achievement considering the cold reception to the first season.

Although a lot of great shows received mixed reviews at first, the reviews for Chuck Lorre's work was almost unanimously negative. The three-camera structure was considered outdated and the pining nerd trope was deemed cliched.

But the viewers liked it, didn't they? Actually, the ratings for the first season never reached the top 50. By season 2, it only ranked at 40. Because a lot of the comedy centred around science and obscure superheroes, the audience seemed very niche.

But by Season 3, everything came together. The teased romance between Leonard and Penny finally blossomed into a relationship and Sheldon was revised to be more likeable and less... Sheldon. The season also introduced Amy, Bernadette, and Will Wheaton - three characters who are responsible for many of the most hysterical moments in the entire run.

Not only did the critics' opinion on the show completely flip, The Big Bang Theory went on to become the highest rated show on television.
