10 Incredibly Dark British TV Comedy Series You NEED To Watch

Yet another forgotten gem of BBC Three's experimental period, Funland was a gleefully grotty odyssey throughout the seedy underbelly of Blackpool - a place full of mobsters, underground sex dungeons, and long-nippled mayors.

Helmed by Jeremy Dyson - the elusive fourth writer of The League of Gentlemen - and Simon Ashdown, this comedy-thriller series took the cruelty and serialised-arc ideas from The League of Gentlemen and pasted them onto a seaside backdrop, which makes for the perfect juxtaposition of light and dark.

Each episode begins with the image of a person in a gorilla outfit falling from atop the Blackpool Tower, and as each episode creeps by we come closer to learning the significance of this event. However, delving too deep into the specifics of its narrative would be a disservice to its densely woven tapestry of depravity, so it's best to go into this one with little knowledge of its plot.

Featuring an ensemble of much-loved British comedy actors, Funland is a lost treasure that has never been given the love and praise that it so desperately deserves. DVD copies are becoming harder to find as time goes on, so it's best to seek this one out immediately.
