Kaiji Itou is given a once-in-a-lifetime chance. A chance to completely wipe his debts clean and even gain incredible wealth, just so long as he becomes a plaything for the amusement of wealthy businessmen. Despite this, Kaiji overcomes all challenges. How? Through his own quick-wittedness, bluffing, and perseverance - he is nothing if not a gambler.

Not only does he greatly suffer along the way, but he witnesses the suffering and deaths of many like him. Kaiji sees the effort of the people who have nothing, but are willing to do anything, even humiliate and debase themselves as long as they can have a chance for a better life.

So when against all odds, he emerges triumphant against Hyōdō's stacked game, Kaiji chooses to fight on once more. An all-or-nothing bet to prove his worth as a human, to bring down Hyōdō himself and avenge all those who have suffered on account of the games.
