Even before Matt Smith's Let's Kill Hitler jaunt (which sadly didn't live up to the early promise of its title), Doctor Who attracted a surprising amount of Nazi-themed scripts. In 1966 Brian Hayles literally wrote one just called The Nazis, which ended up being rejected for the prosaic but understandable reason of hitting too close to home. Far more thrilling was the proposed Patrick Troughton serial Operation Werewolf, where the Second Doctor arrived at D-Day just in time to stop the Nazis from using teleporation technology to interrupt the Normandy landings. As if the real-life story wasn't weird enough, right? Only one script was written, with other episode titles including Chateau Of Death and Lair Of The Werewolf, suggesting The Doctor would come up against some Grindhouse-type villains along the way. Who wouldn't want to see The Doctor, Jamie and Victoria trying to shut down a Third Reich fourth-dimensional transportation machine, eh?
