It's no secret at all that Rick and Morty fans are a passionate bunch, and in the season three episode "The Rickshank Rickdemption," the most overzealous quarters of the fanbase got inadvertently shown up.

In the episode, Rick (Justin Roiland) reveals his obsession with the Szechuan Sauce that was once available at McDonald's to promote the 1998 Disney movie Mulan.

In light of the shoutout on the show, creator Justin Roiland was sent a tub of the sauce by McDonald's, and a few months later, the company also decided to release small quantities of the sauce in select chains of their restaurant empire.

And on that day, all hell broke loose, as McDonalds' stock couldn't keep up with the ludicrous demand from Rick and Morty fans, some of whom resorted to protests and even vandalism at their ill-stocked restaurants.

Ultimately the fiasco only ended up confirming the very worst cliches about a certain quarter of Rick and Morty fans - that, above all else they're unhealthily obsessed with the show - even if only accidentally on the part of the episode's writer, Mike McMahan.
