10 Irresistible TV Spin-Offs That Need To Happen

3. Game Of Thrones Prequel - The Fall Of Aerys Targaryen

gotgotGame of Thrones is big business and deservedly so. I think the adaptation of George R Martin's books has been spectacular. Season Three was a joy to watch, even despite the distinct lack of Tyrion. Seriously I could watch a show all about him! A spin off would work for two reasons. 1) Audiences would absolutely watch anything that stems from the world of Game of Thrones and 2) the TV series is going to catch up with the books soon enough. I'm (possibly desperately) optimistic that George R Martin will release the next book The Winds of Water in time for the TV show to adapt it, but I'm not convinced that he'll be close to finishing A Dream Of Spring. And even if the show's creators know the ending, I don't want to see it on screen before I've read the books. So perhaps one way to bide time would be to focus on a spin off series (one, maybe two seasons is all you'll need). The most obvious choice would be Robert's rebellion as the mad king Aerys Targaryen and the downfall of his family. The books and the show have already set the scene for many sequences. The battle of the Trident. Stannis' siege as Storm's End. Jamie murdering the king. And of course the escape of Viserys and Daenerys. Two series would be perfect. The first the rising of the rebellion and the second the war that followed. We'd get more time with Tywin Lannister, a young, eager Jamie before his 'turn to darkness' as the Kingslayer, a welcome return for the noble Eddard Stark and of course Robert, back in all his thundering glory. There's plenty of drama and action to be had...perhaps more so than the series post- A Storm Of Swords. Though I'm fairly confident that the show will mix things up a bit to keep the magic alive. It seems a win-win situation. It worked for Spartacus. Why not for Game of Thrones?
