10 Irresistible TV Spin-Offs That Need To Happen

2. Star Trek - Back On TV

Star Trek While I enjoyed the JJ Abrams directed reboots, it proved one thing; the films are always going to be less about Star Trek and more about the USS Enterprise battling the perils of space. I get why this has to be. If you had the crew infected by a strange organism or charting a nebula for part of the film, audiences would get bored. Bring in Klingon Birds of Prey, the Borg or Khan...and suddenly you're onto a winner. Star Trek as films are successful when they're half way to being big summer blockbusters. Which is why I think if we're ever going to get back to the heart of Star Trek, we need it back on TV. I think enough time has passed since Star Trek: Enterprise and all the Nest-Generation era shows before it that there would be some definite interest in a weekly show. The alternate timeline is the perfect setting for a rejuvenated Star Trek television show. Humanity are exploring the stars, wary of new threats like the Klingon Empire and incidents such as the massacre at Vulcan and the decimation of the planet's people. Imagine a star ship, exploring deep space alongside the Enterprise - perhaps encountering the aliens and threats from the original series, only with a new alternate-reality spin. I discussed potential aliens that could appear in the next Star Trek in my recent article. If not in Star Trek 3, what about a TV show? Of course, with a weekly TV show, there's the scope to do anything you want. The rebooted films would only serve as a springboard to new sci-fi adventures. These days there's nothing quite like Star Trek with its mix of aliens, spaceships, exploration, science and action. Get it right and get a great cast (Star Trek: Enterprise / Voyager - this is where you failed) and this could be a winner.
