10 Least Interesting Romances In Otherwise Great TV Shows

7. Jake And Amy (Brooklyn Nine-Nine)

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is definitely one of the funniest sitcoms on television right now, and for the most part it’s able to avoid the standard sitcom tropes to just deliver non-stop laughs. So that’s why it’s so frustrating that far too many episodes are centered around yet another will they/won’t they relationship that has been done a million times before far more effectively.

The Jake and Amy story is every sitcom romance ever, with the writers constantly teasing that they could be together but then it doesn’t happen over and over. Jake likes Amy, but she’s in a relationship! Now Amy likes Jake, but uh oh, now he’s dating someone! It’s another Jim and Pam situation, but in this case the writers have not really proven that Jake and Amy are even a particularly interesting pair. They’re two attractive people of the opposite sex who work together, and that's supposed to be enough.

Usually Brooklyn Nine-Nine doesn’t get bogged down with romance, and it actually did something really interesting with Gina and Boyle in Season 2 which strayed from the typical sitcom mold. But Jake and Amy are such a trite pairing that leads to some incredibly tedious scenes throughout the series, and it really feels like something that’s beneath these incredibly talented writers.
