10 Least Interesting Romances In Otherwise Great TV Shows
6. Sayid And Shannon (Lost)
There are a bunch of truly incredible and affecting romances throughout Lost: Charlie and Claire, Desmond and Penny, Jack and Kate, and Jin and Sun to name a few. Shannon and Sayid does not measure up to those.
The two were introduced as a couple towards the end of the first season, becoming close when Sayid asks Shannon to help translate some of Rousseau’s writing, as all great romances start. They’re especially bonded together after Boone’s death when Shannon turns to Sayid for support.
They aren’t a horribly mismatched couple, and they do have a few sweet moments together. But while most romances in the show felt like the writers were taking their time with them, like the beautiful Charlie and Claire relationship which slowly percolates over the course of several seasons, this one is just far too rushed, especially considering Sayid was dedicating his entire life to tracking down Nadia, the love of his life, just a few weeks prior.
Particularly jarring for a lot of fans was the fact that during the series finale, Sayid ended up with Shannon in the afterlife rather than Nadia. This girl he spent a few weeks with on the island was more important to him than the woman he loved more than anything and searched for for years?
