10 Least Interesting Romances In Otherwise Great TV Shows

5. Hannibal And Alana (Hannibal)

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Jake and Amy
NBC

Alana Bloom is an excellent character on Hannibal, a smart and interesting colleague to Will who becomes something of a love interest for him. So that’s why it was so bizarre when in Season 2, she suddenly and randomly falls for Hannibal and begins dating him out of basically nowhere.

Their relationship is apparently sparked partially by Alana feeling betrayed by Will, moving to Hannibal for emotional support. Will is locked up and tries to have Hannibal killed, so Alana feels betrayed and ends up in a relationship with Hannibal as a reaction to that. On paper that kind of makes sense, but in the show it seems to come totally out of left field, and this truly interesting character for the rest of the season basically just lies in Hannibal’s bed every episode.

It also becomes incredibly frustrating how obvious it is that Hannibal is manipulating Alana but how she somehow can’t see it even though she's a pretty smart person. Though that frustration is arguably how the audience is intended to react, it just comes across as far too sudden of a shift and definitely could have been built up more effectively.
