The Omega Men were originally created by Marv Wolfman and Joe Staton, and first appeared in an issue of Green Lantern in 1981. However, the actual history and lore behind the Omega Men has changed drastically in the years since, and it is actually the most recent iteration that DC would do well to expand.

The latest Omega Men comic was written by Tom King with art by Barnaby Bagenda and José Marzán Jr, and it reimagined the team with a fascinating new element: they were all tied to the destruction of Krypton.

In this series, the Omega Men actually refers to the group of people who survived the genocidal tyranny of a interstellar corporation known as the Citadel, who have monopolised the business of planetary destruction prevention. Their tyranny stems from the destruction of Superman's home, and it falls to the Omega Men - some reluctant, others eager - to take them on.

It's a brilliant tale, and with the group boasting plenty of ties to the Green Lantern Corps it wouldn't be difficult for DC to incorporate them into that corner of the universe elsewhere.
