10 Majorly Hyped TV Series That Disappointed Us
6. Carnival Row
It's hard to look at a show like this and talk about how it failed. On the surface, this series had all the potential to be a game-changer, with an exciting and unique concept, some great political commentary and a nice blend of visuals. A neo-noir fantasy based on fairies and other mythical creatures sounds so appealing on paper, but it didn't make any kind of splash.
This show had plenty of advertisement tricks up its sleeve. Guillermo Del Toro was a name in the early stages of development, and although he dropped out before production officially began, advertisers could still bank on his reputation for dark fantasy in the build up to its release.
Plus, since it was on Amazon Prime, they had free roam to blast it all over their incredibly popular site, and it didn't hurt that the faces covering the internet were Orlando Bloom and Cara Delavigne. It had everything going for it on the way up to its release.
Sadly, the show itself ended up being a surprising average affair. It looked stunning but lacked focus, as the story and characters were all over the place, and it felt entirely bloated. No amount of star power could save it.
