10 Marvel Superheroes Who Should Join The Defenders

7. Moon Knight

Essentially Marvel€™s answer to Batman, Mark Spector first appeared back in 1981 as a mercenary, left for dead after a physical encounter with a dangerous terrorist while on a mission in South America. Fatally wounded, Mark is forced to drag his own lifeless body across the desert, eventually succumbing to his own injuries and passing into the next life. Resurrected by the powers of Khonshu the Moon God, Mark is gifted with superhuman powers, specifically the powers of adaptive personality and fear inducement, the latter of which allowing him to alter his own identity temporarily to fulfil certain objectives. Supported by his immense fortune, Mark soon adopts the persona of Moon Knight in order to fight crime, using his new powers to construct multiple, advantageous personalities, such as a financier, and a cab driver named Jake Lockley. Using these multiple identities, Moon Knight was able to develop a vast network of informants and even create his own alternate sources of revenue. How To Introduce The Character Due to his multiple secret identities, it would be possible to introduce The Defenders to at least one of them long in advance. Perhaps Lockley (the cab driver) would become somewhat of an associate of the group, only to later reveal his true identity in order to aid the gang against a particularly challenging foe. His role in the group would be threefold: his multiple identities would allow him to gather Intel for the group, meaning that he could be used as a plot-device to fill in any gaps in the narrative; his extensive resources would also create an interesting dynamic wherein the group come to depend upon him for both information and financial support, rendering him somewhat of an unofficial leader. Finally, Moon Knight€™s adaptive personalities place an enormous strain on his mental health; perhaps his sanity would slowly deteriorate, making him steadily more unreliable, until the group is forced to finally retire the declining hero.
