6. Captain Ultra
First appearing in Fantastic Four #177, Captain Ultra was originally a villain introduced as part of the Frightful Four, a group of supervillains who would often do battle with The Human Torch. With the powers of invulnerability and super strength, Captain Ultra would have been a fairly formidable threat were it not for his incapacitating fear of fire, a fear so debilitating that it causes the Captain to faint at the mere sight of flames. As you can imagine, Captain Ultra has been utilised as a comic relief character ever since. How To Introduce The Character Thus far, The Defenders consists of four surly heroes, each more serious than the last. Introducing a more humorous element into the team would allow for some comedic moments, moments that could relieve some of the tension where necessary. Captain Ultras almost unlimited powers could also be a source of concern; he could be portrayed as a dangerous idiot, an unpredictable fool with a limitless potential for destruction. Or, he can just make jokes and faint whenever anyone lights a match. Whatever you fancy.
