10 Marvel Superheroes Who Should Join The Defenders

5. The Runaways

Debuting back in 2003, The Runaways were a group of superhuman children on the run from their sadistic, murderous parents. Their parents €“ The Pride €“ were a group of idealistic doomsday worshipers who yearly sacrificed a human victim to the Gibborim in order to fulfil the Rite of the Blood. The Runaways €“ who originally consisted of Karolina Dean, Gertrude Yorkes, Chase Stein and Alex Wilder €“ accidentally witnessed the rite and abandoned their parents, fleeing to the city in order to plot their downfall. The group also consisted of a telepathic dinosaur, but that aspect might need to be dropped for the purposes of the show. How To Introduce The Characters You can introduce as many or as few of the members as you like, but it would work better with as many of the original runaways as possible. Both The Runaways and The Pride would fit perfectly into The Defenders, perhaps even forming the framework for an entire season. The children could hire Jessica Jones to spy on their parents and collect incriminating evidence on their behalf; she would observe the Rite of the Blood, and perhaps even attempt to intervene and prevent the sacrifice, ultimately failing and finding herself outnumbered by the cultists. The plot could revolve around The Defenders attempting to stop The Pride from summoning Gibborim, or some other unspecified demonic force. Ultimately, like in the comics, one of The Runaways would betray the group and complete the ritual, prompting a confrontation between The Defenders and their first otherworldly adversary.
