10 Memorable Post-Regeneration Moments In Doctor Who
7. The TARDIS Nearly Hits Big Ben - The Eleventh Hour
Another fantastic scene from the debut episode of the Eleventh Doctor. The TARDIS crashing back to Earth was a modern trend that started back in the second series, and of all the episodes so far, this is the funniest one yet.
The episode opens with a bang as the TARDIS comes hurtling over London with the new Doctor dangling from it, desperately trying to get back in through the open doors. Things suddenly take a turn for the worse, as the low flying machine heads towards Big Ben, threatening to smash into the famous clock. It’s only thanks to the sonic screwdriver that the Doctor narrowly misses being impaled on the tower. It’s an exciting, fun scene that pulls you straight into the action - whilst showing off a beautiful panoramic view of London at night. Meanwhile, the destruction of the interior of the TARDIS created an excuse to revamp the console room to match the new Doctor - something that would become its own trend. The whole sequence immediately sets the tone of the new series and introduces the audience to the sort of physical comedy Smith would bring to the role.
