6. Dynasty - The (Other) Royal Wedding

May 15th , 1985. Amanda Carrington & Prince Michael of Moldavia Dynasty is the definition of the 80's prime time soap. Some of you might not remember this, but before hour long dramas focused on either doctors or detectives saving lives or solving crimes, they were all about one thing, rich people. And Aaron Spelling, scribe and chronicler of the debaucherous lives of the rich and glamorous, had just the piece of high class fluff and eye candy to capture all of America's attention. It started in January 1981 as a mid season replacement and it reigned as crowned king of guilty pleasures for a total of 8 years. In season 5, the character of Amanda Carrington was introduced into the family dynasty (see what I did there). She was presented as the long lost daughter of Alexis Colby, the former wife of Blake Carrington (the shows centerpiece, head of the Carrington family and president of Denver-Carrington, the company he built with his "bare hands") After a couple of twists involving being snowed in inside a remote cabin and boning her mother's fiancé, Dex Dexter, she falls madly in love with Prince Michael of Moldavia. Everything goes off in true aristocratic fashion with doves and all, until Moldavian terrorist rebels spray the chapel with gunfire, leaving the entire cast presumably riddled with bullets and laying there to die. It was an end of season cliff-hanger that left audiences with bated breath.
