10 Mind-Blowing Battlestar Galactica Facts You Didn't Know

1. Pegasus And The Legacy Of Galactica

The arrival of the Battlestar Pegasus in the second season changed the show utterly. Ronald D. Moore had wanted to visit this story, a retelling of the original series' The Living Legends since the initial idea to update Galactica came along, but deliberately held off until the second season so that the audience would get a chance to care about the core characters first.

Pegasus brings with it the history of militarism to Galactica, something which has, although it may not have felt like it, softened considerably since the first season. The choice to strip away the humanity of the Pegasus crew was stark one, though it serves to shock the audience again.

Of all of the choices made in the depiction of the Pegasus crew, the character of Gina Inviere was a direct reminder to the audience (harking back to Starbuck's treatment of Leoben in Flesh and Bone) and also a knowing nod. Her name, Gina, was a reference to GINO, or, Galactica In Name Only, which the re-imagined show had been called disparagingly by fans of the original.

Everything about the introduction of this Battlestar was knowingly plotted to hit the audience as hard as possible.
