10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Static Shock

1. The Success Of The Show Reignited Interest In The Comic

Static Shock
DC Comics

Static Shock ended in 2004, by which time Milestone Comics had already been shuttered for seven years. However, the popularity of show prompted DC to still support Static, publishing old issues in collected form and several new one-shot stories.

During Final Crisis, the Dakotaverse merged with the mainstream DC universe, allowing Milestone's legacy characters to mix with DC regulars in comic form. Virgil takes advantage of his new reality and joins the Teen Titans, as well as doing work for STAR Labs and Cadmus.

Years later, after the Flashpoint arc, Static was 'reborn' like many other DC properties. He remains part of current DC continuity, becoming a valued hero and respected expert in the fields of electromagnetics and molecular structure.

At DC's 2020 FanDome, it was announced that Milestone Comics will be revived and that Static will be starring in a new digital comic and graphic novel in 2021. It was also confirmed that there've been talks for a live action Static Shock film.

Unfortunately, Dwayne McDuffie never lived to see the reboot and continuing success of his character. After Milestone folded, he became a prolific writer including stints on Teen Titans, What's New Scooby Doo?, Justice League, and Ben 10. He died of complications from heart surgery in 2011, but his creations will endure for many lifetimes to come.
