10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Farscape

8. 89th Time's The Charm

Scapers will also know that every episode opens with the theme playing over a montage of scenes from the show. John Crichton's voice-over (featured in every episode except for Season 1, Episode 1"Premier") changes slightly every season, updating with the story.

When "The Peacekeeper Wars" mini-series aired, it dropped the TV show's theme for a more cinematic opening. But the writers still added an acknowledgement of the familiar theme. Following the Season 4 finale, Crichton and Aeryn Sun were disintegrated into tiny crystals. At the beginning of the mini-series the crystals are collected and both are returned to their meaty selves. When asked to explain his story, Crichton says, "Fine, for the 89th time." What follows is a montage as Crichton explains the events of the previous four seasons. A cheeky reference to the opening sequence of the 88 total episodes of the series.

Farscape's intro was the brainchild of Australian composing team SubVision and Guy Gross. When creating the opening theme, they were told to create something between "medieval and tribal." This included adding female vocals, provided by Avigail Herman. The networks weren't fans of the theme, but the composers and producers of the show fought to keep it.

Composer Chris Neal said, "We felt we had to have some sort of yearning sound, a tribal feel, because that's the whole point of Farscape." He continued, "Moya's a female, there's a strong female presence in the cast, and there are all these people trying to find their way home."
