10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Never Knew About Farscape
7. Pip, Pip, Hooray!
One of the most relatable aspects of John Crichton is how he copes with all of the crazy things going on around him in any given episode. His witty, wise cracks and pop culture references, though maybe played out in films today, was and still are welcomed aspects of his character.
This branched into his relationships with his Moya crew mates. Whether it be his comedic back and forth with Ka D'argo to his counsel-seeking discussions with Zhaan, Crichton manages to find reliable allies in a dangerous universe. He solidifies these relationships with humorous nicknames, even if the recipients don't understand the earthly references. "Blue" for Zhaan, "Sparky" for Rygel, "Nosferatu" for Scorpius, and so on.
However, one of the most endearing relationships is between Crichton and the young Nebari Chiana. Both share in the naïveté of their situations. For Crichton, he's a human thrown into the unknown universe with creatures and cultures he doesn't understand and has to navigate. Chiana struggles with controlling her strong emotions and fights against those she feels are trying to control her. This draws them together into a friendship unlike any they share with others onboard Moya.
Crichton's loving nickname to Chiana, "Pip," solidifies this unique relationship. But, surprisingly, it didn't come about because of the show's writers. It was the actual nickname Ben Browder gave to Gigi Edgley. It was so adorable, they used it in the show.
