10 Minor Doctor Who Actors Who Became Big Names

9. David Prowse

Bristolian actor and bodybuilder David Prowse holds the odd distinction having been both hero and villain to millions of children throughout the 1970s and 80s; his two most significant roles being Darth Vader and public information film superhero the Green Cross Code Man, a character created by the British Government for a safety campaign about crossing the road safely. But such high profile roles (and an MBE for the latter) came from humble beginnings. One of which was being cast in Episode 5 of the Third Doctor story The Time Monster (1973) as a Minotaur. When the Doctor and Jo visit Atlantis, they find the Minotaur guarding the crystal of Kronos, a trident-shaped jewel at the heart of a maze that the Master planned to use to summon and control supernatural being Kronos The Time Eater. Because of his stature and bodybuilding career, the majority of Prowse's role was fight scenes with other minor characters and the Third Doctor, who memorably (and quite amusingly) used bullfighting techniques against the Minotaur with his cape. Which worked. Prowse€™s last film role was in 2010 and it is unknown if he has any plans to continue acting in the near future.
