10 Modern Doctor Who Stories That Waste Great Ideas

Doctor Who The Woman Who Fell To Earth
BBC

A forest that appears overnight covering the world feels like a very classic Doctor Who story. It's a bizarre mystery that is a little silly, but it's a great set up for a fun Doctor Who adventure. After all, how often is The Doctor actually lost for words at what he's encountered? The actual reasoning for the trees appearing is pretty good too, it's just the actual main bulk of the episode that lets it down.

For a start, this episode feels like it's set in a post apocalyptic world. Clara, Danny and the kids are in the center of London, so why don't they encounter a single other soul? Just because trees have popped up everywhere doesn't mean that the population are all going to stay inside! Recent events in the real world have proved that.

It sounds like a small point but it just really breaks the immersion of the story. Pair this with pretty poor child actors throughout, and the episode starts to lose its charm. It is a real shame because the episode is really close to being amazing, especially with Clara's decision to stay on Earth in face of extinction.
