10 Modern Doctor Who Stories That Waste Great Ideas

Doctor Who The Woman Who Fell To Earth

Utopia and The Sound of Drums were two superb episodes that not only brought back Captain Jack, but also The Master. The reveal that the mysterious Harold Saxon had in fact been The Master all along was great, and John Simm's version of the character works extremely well with David Tennat's Doctor. With The Doctor trapped by The Master, who now rules the world, the finale episode had a lot riding on it.

How is Martha going to get out of this one? Well we skip a year of her travels around the world, which sounds quite exciting, but I guess we don't get to see that. The Toclafane reveal was good, but how does Martha save the day? She gets everyone on planet Earth to think about The Doctor at the same time, which causes him to return to his younger form and start hovering like a god. What?

The resolution to this story is just a little bit too ridiculous, and while Davies only had one episode to tie everything up, Martha's story feels unexplored. Perhaps Davies should've taken a real risk and made it a four parter!

Despite this, no one can deny that The Master refusing to regenerate as The Doctor begs him to is nothing short of fantastic, and arguably one of Tennant's greatest moments in the role.
