10 Moments When The Simpsons Went Too Far

2. That Tik-Tok Opening Number - To Surveil With Love (2010)

Though the episode that the "Tik-Tok" musical number came packaged with is actually pretty good (for late-stage Simpsons, anyway), there's something inherently "jump the shark" about the Simpson family lip-synching to a song by Kesha. Do Simpsons fans even like Kesha? What was the point of this sequence, other than to get people talking about it on the internet for a few hours the next day? It just didn't feel "natural" to the show. If you're yet to see the sequence (and count yourself lucky if that happens to be true), it basically features Lisa Simpson lip-synching to Tik-Tok by Kesha - which is just plainly weird anyway - whilst various characters from the show come in and out of frame, also lip-synching to the song, because... well, why? There's no context or no reason for this to have ever happened; it's a random reference for the sake of it, totally free of wit or meaning.
