The finale of Star Trek: Lower Decks' third season, The Stars At Night sees the Texas-class ships, an armada entirely powered by rogue A.I., turn against Starfleet and begin attacking anything and everything. A timely reminder than self-flying ships are not quite ready yet, this nevertheless serves as a bit of a shock for the audience who weren't truly expecting destruction on this scale.

First, and perhaps fittingly, Admiral Buenamigo falls victim to the assault. He spearheaded the clandestine research into the A.I. code, believing that A.I. crewed ships should replace the fleet. Following his death, the Texas-class begin to attack Douglas Station, making this the first time the audience had seen a true assault against a Spacedock-type station in Star Trek

Though the Soveriegn-class Van Citters swoops in to help, it is also quickly outmatched. The Cerritos manages to lure the ships away and it looks like it might be curtains for the Second Contact special until, at the last moment, the entire array of California-class ships in the fleet arrives in the nick of time. It was a seriously fist-pumping moment, pulling double duty in saving the ship, and proving once and for all that the California-class may not be sleek like the Sovereign, but they're not less dependable.
