10 More Rick & Morty Fan Theories That Change Everything
4. Jerry Acts As A Camouflage For Beth
It was established early on in the series that Ricks like having their Mortys around because their grandson’s brainwaves can essentially cancel out and camouflage their own. The Citadel was built on a base of tortured Mortys, and Ricks across the multiverse often went out of their way to manufacture a meeting between Beth and Jerry to create their Morty.
This however, may not have been how the entire thing began. Could there have been a specific reason for Jerry being chosen to pair with Beth before Ricks were even aware of the effects of Mortys? It is a similar theory to how Morty's brainwaves hide Rick’s, with Jerry’s brainwaves potentially canceling out Beth’s.
As seen by Space Beth, Rick’s daughter is potentially just as dangerous as Rick himself, and he could have added Jerry into the mix in order to offer some sort of protection. This would have only been a temporary solution however.
Rick would have assumed Beth would eventually grow tired of Jerry, as she ultimately did throughout season two, but he would have thought this would have happened long before he came back into her life. The fact that Jerry is still there instead of being merely a temporary safety precaution may be why Rick hates his son-in-law so much.
