9. Black Cat
What Is It? The daughter of a renowned cat burglar who encouraged her to never settle for second-best, Felicia Hardy first donned the costume of the Black Cat in order to break her father out of jail. On that same night, she first encountered Spider-Man and felt a kinship with him. She continued with the Black Cat persona in a misguided attempt to win Spider-Mans affections. Felicia eventually gained powers of her own, first a sort of bad luck ability that affected those around her and later gaining catlike powers such as retractable claws and night vision. Following in her fathers footsteps as a thief and a mercenary, the Black Cat has toed the line between hero and criminal.
How To Do It Right? This one is a bit more complicated because of the issue of rights. The rumor mill says that Felicity Jones may play the character in the upcoming sequel to Sonys Amazing Spider-Man, and while Sonys rights to Spider-Man dont apply to television (if I recall correctly), Marvel may not want to step on their toes by introducing their own version of the Black Cat into TV. Felicia is a cool enough character in her own right to merit a series thats not tethered to Spider-Man, however. Strong, kick-ass heroines always seem to do much better on TV than they do in movies (see: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alias, Nikita), and the Black Cat is one of the easiest to adapt. Shes a cat burglar and her costume is already black leather, and her powers are real easy to depict without going over-budget (or you could just go the no-powers route, as both approaches have been done in the comics). Shes also had relationships with some other not-so-famous Marvel characters, such as Puma and the Foreigner, who can make for interesting romantic foils or potential enemies.
